Pace bought lot 18 of block 164 in Belle Plaine in Scott County on August 25, 1859. He lived in Scott County in the late 1850s.

In 1850 he lived in Petersburg, Virginia. In that year’s slave schedule, his male slaves were ages 60, 54, 50, 21, 18, 11, 9; his female slaves were 46, 43, 40, 17, 10 (2 of them), and 7.
