He bought 160 acres of land in Stearns County from his son W. A. Caruthers in November 1860.

He was from Wilson County, Tennessee. In 1860 he held male slaves aged 50, 45, 36, 30, 29, 28, 25, 24, 20, 18, 15 (2), 11, 9, 8, 7, 4; female slaves aged 50, 26, 22, 15, 13, 10, 7. In Smith County, Tennessee in 1860, he held two male slaves aged 25 and 1; three female slaves aged 35, 10, 3.

Easter Caruthers: She was 20 years old in 1870 in Wilson County; may also have been Robert Looney Caruthers’s slave.

Malinda Caruthers: She was 19 years old in Smith County in 1870.

Sam Caruthers: He was 11 years old in 1870 in Wilson County.
